About
I was born in Nicosia, Cyprus on September 28, 1954. I grew up for most of my life in Weybridge, England. When I was child I lived very close to the famous old Brooklands racing circuit… I blame this for my obsession with vintage, veteran and classic cars as we would play on the banking and old crashed cars around the circuit… A lot of the residential roads around there are named after the pioneer drivers from the Edwardian era: Seagrave, Campbell and Cobb etc and became fascinated by there heroism and daring deeds.
This is when I started drawing cars. It was around this time also that I started collecting old car magazines and used these to research the cars, drivers and racing circuits.
When I left school there was only ever going to be one career that I wanted… I went to Brooklands Technical College to study motor vehicle engineering. I served my mechanical apprenticeship at a garage in Weybridge in the late 1960’s / early 1970’s. I had the privilege of working on and driving many different types of cars that would, nowadays, be called classic cars:
E type Jaguar
Daimler V8
M.G.B, Magnet
Mini Cooper and Cooper ‘S’
Triumph TR2, TR3, TR3A, TR4, TR4A, TR5 and TR6
Rover P5, V8
Riley
Wolseley
Plus some that were already termed classic at this time: Bugatti type 35, an E.R.A, a Lea Francis, an Allard, two Jaguar XK 140’s, a Frazer Nash and several Jowetts, including a Jupiter!
I particularly like drawing cars in action and like to research technical and historic detail of the cars, their drivers and, in some cases, the historical context that the vehicle is set… My library of thousands of old motor magazines gives me the opportunity to study subjects from different angles and aspects… The attention to detail and body light reflections are the key to producing the effects.
Depending on the detail and style involved, my drawings can take about 2 weeks from start to finish. However, I have been known to take up to 6 months for very detailed work!
Most of my drawings are sold to people on the internet from many different countries.
That is the extent of my art career so far but I imagine in the future I will be adding quite a bit to this page. Enjoy the web site and please write with any questions or comments about my art.
I am English and moved to the Algarve July 2007 where I enjoy researching and drawing motor vehicles in my studio.
